Tesla Wall Connector Installation Gold Coast

We install the Tesla Wall Connector across the Gold Coast every week, as Tesla certified installers. We set each one up and test it with your car before we leave. It is the most common home charger in Australia, it charges a Tesla at full speed, and it will charge most other electric cars as well.

The charger

What the Tesla Wall Connector Does

The Wall Connector is Tesla's own home charger. It is a fixed unit with a tethered 7.3 metre cable, so the lead lives on the wall and you plug in the way you would a kettle.

  • It charges at the speed your supply allows

The unit handles up to 22kW. What you actually get depends on the power coming into your property and on what your car will accept. We read your meter box before quoting so you know the real number.

  • It charges more than just a Tesla

The Wall Connector uses the Type 2 connector, which is the Australian standard. That means it will charge most other electric cars on the market, so it outlasts the car sitting in your garage today.

  • Two cars can share one supply

Wall Connectors support power sharing. If you have two electric cars, or expect to, several units can be linked so they divide the available power between them.

  • It connects to your wi-fi

The unit joins your home network, which lets it receive Tesla's firmware updates and lets you see and schedule charging from the app.

  • Up to 22kW AC
  • Single and three phase
  • Type 2 connector
  • Wi-Fi
  • Power sharing
  • 7.3m cable

Charging speed

What Decides How Fast Your Car Charges

Three things set your charging speed, and the charger is only one of them. We check all three before we quote, so the number we give you is the number you get.

  1. The power coming into your property

Most Gold Coast homes are single phase, which tops out around 7kW. Three phase is what unlocks 11kW and 22kW. It is written on your meter box and we read it on the first visit.

  2. What your car will accept

Every electric car has its own onboard charger and that sets a ceiling of its own. A 22kW wall unit on a car that accepts 7kW will still charge at 7kW.

  3. How far the charger is from the board

A long cable run needs heavier cable to carry the same current safely. It affects the price more than the speed, but it is part of the same calculation.

For most households a 7kW Wall Connector adds around 40km of range an hour, which covers a normal day's driving several times over while you sleep.

The installation

What's Included in a Wall Connector Installation

  • Site check before the price

We look at your meter box, the supply, the cable run and where the car parks. You get a fixed price off what we find.

  • A dedicated circuit

The Wall Connector gets its own protected circuit back to the switchboard, sized for the unit and the run.

  • The isolator beside the unit

A switch that cuts power to the charger at the wall. It is required, so we fit it where it is least obtrusive.

  • Mounting and cable run

The unit goes where you can reach the car and where a vehicle cannot clip it. Conduit is kept tight to the building.

  • Commissioning and setup

Tested to AS/NZS 3000, connected to your wi-fi, paired with your Tesla account, and power sharing configured if you have more than one unit.

  • Handover and warranty

We walk you through the app and the charging schedule, and our workmanship is covered for ten years.

Why certified matters

Installed by Tesla Certified Electricians

Tesla certification means we are trained and approved to install and commission the Wall Connector, not simply willing to wire one up.

  • The unit is commissioned properly, so it reports to your Tesla account and takes firmware updates from day one.

  • Power sharing is set up correctly the first time, which matters the day you add a second car.

  • If the unit itself develops a fault, we lodge the manufacturer warranty claim for you.

Wall Connectors we have fitted

Tesla Installs on the Gold Coast

Two recent Wall Connector installations, one on a garage wall and one on an outdoor post where there was no wall to use.

  • Tesla Wall Connector installed on a weatherboard wall beside its AC isolatorResidential install

    Tesla Wall Connector

    Palm Beach

The owner was unpacking a portable charger every time they got home. We put the Wall Connector on the wall right beside where the car parks, with its own isolator next to it and the run kept tight against the existing cladding. Charging is now a matter of plugging in.

  • Tesla Wall Connector mounted on an outdoor timber post with the cable coiledResidential install

    Mudgeeraba

    Tesla Wall Connector

No garage wall sat anywhere near where this car parks. The most practical point was the covered outdoor parking, so the Wall Connector went straight onto the structural timber post. The tethered lead stores around the unit and stays within reach of the bay.

Common questions

Tesla Wall Connector Questions

Yes. It uses the Type 2 connector, which is the standard in Australia, so it will charge most electric cars on the market.

That is worth knowing if you expect to change cars at some point. The charger on the wall will still be useful.

On a single phase supply you are looking at around 7kW, which adds roughly 40km of range an hour. On three phase the unit can go to 11kW or 22kW.

Your car sets its own ceiling as well. We check your meter box and your vehicle before quoting, so you get a real number and not a brochure figure.

You can, and plenty of people do at first. A standard power point adds roughly 10 to 15km of range an hour, so an overnight charge gives you enough for short trips.

A Wall Connector on its own circuit is several times faster and the lead stays on the wall. Most people fit one once they have unpacked the mobile charger a few too many times.

Only if you want more than about 7kW. Single phase supply tops out there whichever charger you buy.

For most households 7kW is plenty. We will tell you what your meter box has and what it would take to change it, and you can decide from there.

That is the AC isolator. It lets the supply to the charger be switched off at the wall, and it is required on every installation.

Most people would rather not look at it, so we place it where it is least obtrusive and keep the conduit tight to the building.

Yes. Wall Connectors support power sharing, so multiple units can be linked and will divide the available power between them.

It is worth mentioning at the quote stage even if the second car is a year or two away, because the circuit and the board can be sized for it now.

Charging during the day uses whatever your roof is producing at the time, and the Tesla app lets you schedule charging for those hours.

If you want charging that follows your solar automatically, there are units built for that and we install those too. We will talk you through the difference on site.

Our workmanship is covered for ten years from the installation date. That is the circuit, the terminations, the isolator, the mounting and the conduit.

The Wall Connector itself carries Tesla's own warranty. If it develops a fault we handle the diagnostics and lodge the claim.
