Home EV Charger Installation Gold Coast

We install home EV chargers across the Gold Coast, fixed to the wall instead of a lead through a window. Each one runs on its own circuit, sized for the job and wired back to the board properly, so the car is full every morning without you thinking about it.

Get a price for your place

Tell us what you drive, where it parks and whether you have solar. That is most of what we need.

Step 1 of 3: Your project

This quote is for
Services you're interested in Pick as many as you like.
  • 7kW

    typical single phase home charger

  • ~40km

of range an hour, against 10 to 15 from a power point

  • 10 years

    workmanship warranty on the installation

Before anything else

Your meter box decides this, not the charger

The ceiling on how fast you can charge is set by the supply already coming into the property. Buying a bigger wall unit does not raise it. This is the first thing we read, and you can read it yourself before you call anyone.

Single phase

About 7kW

Charging rate
Around 40km of range an hour
How to tell at the board
One main switch feeding the board, a single incoming set of mains.
Suits
Daily commuting, one EV, charging while you sleep.

What most Gold Coast houses already have, and for most drivers it is enough. Overnight at 7kW refills far more than a normal day's driving.

Three phase

11kW or 22kW

Charging rate
Roughly three times the rate of single phase
How to tell at the board
Three main switches or a three pole main switch, and three incoming mains.
Suits
High kilometres, two EVs, charging hard off midday solar.

What unlocks the faster units. Worth having if you drive long distances, run two EVs, or want the car topped up in the window the sun is on the roof.

Your car sets a ceiling of its own. Its onboard charger decides what it will accept, so a 22kW wall unit on a car that takes 7kW still charges at 7kW. We check both before quoting rather than after.

What you get

What a home installation actually includes

Not a charger in a box. The list below is what goes in, what gets checked and what you are left holding afterwards.

  • The site assessment

The meter board, the supply, the cable run and the mounting position, read on site before a price is given rather than assumed from a photo.

  • A dedicated circuit

Its own protected circuit back to the board, sized for the charger. Not a spur off something that was already there.

  • The AC isolator

The box beside the charger that lets the supply be cut at the wall. It is required, so it goes in, placed where it is least obtrusive rather than pretended away.

  • Switchboard work, if the board needs it

A compliant main switch, neutral link, isolation link and the clearances to go with them. Priced in the quote, not discovered on the day.

  • Mounting and the cable run

Conduit kept tight to the building, the unit set where a car cannot clip it, and somewhere for the lead to live other than the floor.

  • Network approval where it is needed

Larger installs have to be approved and can need a load shedding relay. We lodge it. Jobs do get knocked back for skipping this.

  • Testing and commissioning

Installed, tested and commissioned to AS/NZS 3000, with solar and battery integration set up if the property has it.

  • The app, and the handover

Set up with you, walked through, and left with a handover pack rather than a login you have to work out yourself.

What it comes down to

What moves the price up or down

Two houses on the same street can be hundreds apart, and it is almost never the charger that explains it. Six things do. We check all six before quoting, which is why the number does not move afterwards.

  • How far the board is from the car

    Costs less when

Board on the garage wall, car parked the other side of it.

    Costs more when

Board at the front of the house, car at the back, or a second building entirely.

  • The condition of the switchboard

    Costs less when

Modern board, compliant, room to spare.

    Costs more when

Old board missing a main switch, a neutral link or the clearances, and needing work first.

  • Single phase or three phase

    Costs less when

Single phase already there and 7kW is enough for you.

    Costs more when

Wanting 22kW on a single phase supply, which is a supply upgrade, not a charger choice.

  • What the cable has to pass through

    Costs less when

An accessible wall cavity or an exposed run along existing cladding.

    Costs more when

Rendered masonry, a slab, a ceiling with no access, or a run that has to be trenched.

  • Whether it ties into solar or a battery

    Costs less when

    Standalone charger, no integration.

    Costs more when

Charging off surplus solar or straight off battery DC, which is more hardware and more commissioning.

  • Whether the network has to approve it

    Costs less when

A straightforward single phase unit inside the usual limits.

    Costs more when

A larger install needing approval and a load shedding relay fitted.

We will not quote a home charger without seeing the meter box. A number given over the phone before that is a number that changes on install day.

How it runs

From your first call to the car plugged in

  1. Day one

You tell us what you drive

What the car is, where it parks, and whether there is solar. That is most of what we need to get you a number.

  2. On site

    We read the meter box

Supply, board condition, cable run, mounting position, and whether the network needs to approve it. Six checks, all before a price.

  3. The quote

A fixed number with the work listed

Including any switchboard work the board needs. Nothing gets discovered later that could have been seen on the day we looked.

  4. One to two weeks

    Installed, tested, commissioned

Licensed Queensland electricians, to AS/NZS 3000, with the solar and battery integration set up if there is any.

  5. Handover

The app set up with you

Walked through the charging schedule and the solar settings, and left a handover pack.

  6. Ten years

    We stay the first call

Ten years of workmanship warranty, and we lodge manufacturer claims rather than handing you a phone number.

The hardware

Which charger suits a house

All of these are units we actually install. The right one usually comes down to what is already on your roof, because a charger that talks to your existing system is worth more than one that does not.

Proof, not promises

Home installs on the Coast

A few recent home charger installations across the Gold Coast. Real garages, real meter boxes, real cable runs.

  • Tesla Wall Connector installed on a weatherboard wall beside its AC isolatorResidential install

    Tesla Wall Connector

    Palm Beach

The owner was unpacking a portable charger every time they got home. We put the Wall Connector on the wall right beside where the car parks, with its own isolator next to it and the run kept tight against the existing cladding. Charging is now a matter of plugging in.

  • Sigenergy battery stack with an EVDC charging module installed in a Gold Coast garageResidential install

    Sigenergy EVDC and battery

    Broadbeach Waters

    Sigenergy EVDC

This owner wanted the car charging built into the home's energy system rather than bolted on beside it. We installed Sigenergy battery storage with DC charging in the garage, so storage and charging sit in the one place. A bollard went in front of the battery because cars move past it every day.

  • Sungrow AC EV charger installed in a Gold Coast garage with the roller door openResidential install

    Sungrow AC22E

    Southport

There was very little usable wall left around the parking area, so placement was most of this job. The Sungrow went on the centre wall between the two garage doors, close to the cars and clear of the door gear. The lead has its own holder underneath instead of lying across the floor.

  • Sigenergy AC EV charger mounted beside existing home energy equipment with its cable holderResidential install

    Sigenergy EV AC charger

    Varsity Lakes

    Sigenergy EV AC

The garage already had energy equipment in it and the owner did not want a tangle of cable and switchgear added to it. We set the Sigenergy AC charger alongside the existing system, with its own isolation and a wall holder for the lead. It reads as one tidy setup rather than two.

  • GoodWe HCA EV charger installed beside a home battery system protected by bollardsResidential install

    GoodWe HCA G2

    Helensvale

A large battery system was already in place here, so the charger had to join an existing energy setup rather than stand on its own. The GoodWe went in beside the batteries with dedicated isolation and the lead within reach of the parking spot. Bollards protect the battery in an area cars move through.

  • Tesla Wall Connector mounted on an outdoor timber post with the cable coiledResidential install

Tesla Wall Connector on a post

    Mudgeeraba

    Tesla Wall Connector

No garage wall sat anywhere near where this car parks. The most practical point was the covered outdoor parking, so the Wall Connector went straight onto the structural timber post. The tethered lead stores around the unit and stays within reach of the bay.

Questions we get on home jobs

The things worth knowing before you book

Licence 91381. Installed to AS/NZS 3000 and AS/NZS 5139.

Considerably. A standard 10A power point trickles in roughly 10 to 15km of range an hour. A 7kW home charger adds around 40km an hour, and a three phase unit more again. Your car's onboard charger sets the ceiling, so a bigger wall unit will not always mean a faster charge.

Only if you want more than about 7kW. Single phase supply tops out there regardless of which charger you buy. Three phase is what unlocks 11kW and 22kW. We read it off your meter box before quoting, so you find out before you have committed to anything.

That is the AC isolator. It lets the supply to the charger be cut at the wall in an emergency, and it is required. Most people do not love the look of it. It goes in anyway, and we place it where it is least obtrusive rather than pretending it is optional.

Sometimes. The board needs a compliant main switch, neutral link and isolation link, and physical room with correct clearances. If yours is missing any of that it gets sorted before the charger goes in, and it is priced in the quote rather than discovered on the day.

Yes, and it is the main reason to fit a good one. Every charger we install can prioritise surplus solar so the export going back to the grid at a few cents goes into the car instead. If there is a battery, the car can charge off it in the evening rather than buying from the grid.

Ten years of workmanship from the installation date: the wiring, terminations, switchboard changes, mounting, conduits and switchgear. If a product itself fails, that claim sits with the manufacturer, and the diagnostics and paperwork to lodge it are handled for you.
